Google Drive barely registers in the PDF editors conversation, showing up in just 4 of 79 answers. Scores stay low across the board: 2 out of 100 from ChatGPT, 4 from both Claude and Perplexity, for an overall score of 3. When it does get a mention, it's mostly for OCR work, named in 2 of 3 answers to "What's the best OCR tool to make a scanned PDF searchable?" It also earns a nod for mobile PDF editing and PDF-to-Word/Excel conversion, each in 1 of their respective answers. Google Drive is never named for Windows PDF editing, open-source tools, browser-based editors, AI PDF chat, or general 2026 roundups.

In their words

ChatGPT“| Google Drive/Docs | Quick, no-cost extraction | Fine for getting text out, but less ideal when your priority is producing a polished searchable PDF that retains the original scan.”
Claude“| Google Drive | One-off file, no install (open PDF with Google Docs) | Free, loses layout |”
Perplexity“Best free option: Adobe’s online converter or Google Drive/Docs — suitable for simple, text-based PDFs, but formatting may need cleanup.”
