In the week of 12 October 2026, the AI assistants we track most often recommend Cursor (65), GitHub Copilot (62) and Claude Code (46) for ai coding assistants, out of 34 products we follow in this category. Scores are the share of 70 answers naming each product, across 4 assistants.

Out of 34 AI coding assistants tracked, Cursor sits on top with an overall score of 65, named in 71 of 89 answers. GitHub Copilot trails close behind at 62, actually edging Cursor out in named mentions with 73 of 89 answers. After that, the gap widens fast: Claude Code lands at 46, pulled down by a near-absent Gemini score of just 3. Aider (23) and OpenAI Codex (22) round out the top 5, with Codex scoring a flat 0 from Gemini. So the race for first is tight, but third place onward is a different story entirely.
